Spoiler alert: They all kept me busy. None of them got me any closer to launching or landing clients.
I didn’t always have a business I loved: the speaking,
the coaching, the books, the podcast.
For a long time, it was just a dream.
I had a plan, created content, and carried a lot of fear.
Then I found a way to put myself out there even though I was still scared.
Now I help other women do it too, so no one ever has to stay on the sidelines of their own life.
My journey started the way it does for a lot of women like you and me...
I had a goal, then a plan, then a better plan. So, I took yet another course to help me make that plan, my manuscript, and my business, even better.
I lost count of how many times I fixed and reworked my website, narrowed down my perfect niche, or polished my publisher pitch.
I was doing lots of work and getting nothing done. I had great ideas and I regularly posted on social media, but I still hadn’t launched my business.
For far too many years, I had stayed busy being busy. I kept telling myself I was building a business, but what I was really building was the illusion of one. I had no idea why I couldn’t just put my work into the world.
And before I knew it, another decade passed by.

But Then A Family Tragedy Changed Everything...
Regrets and Unrealized Dreams
In 2010, my dad was diagnosed with early-onset
Alzheimer’s disease.
I was heartbroken.
He told me that he was at peace about dying.
He was content with the life he had lived.
He had done everything he ever wanted to do.
I couldn’t say the same.
I had so many regrets about the things I’d wanted to
say and do and still hadn’t, and so many dreams
I had put off for "someday".
Watching him decline made me realize how quickly
time was passing, and for the first time ever, I got
really upset with myself for all the money I’d spent and
all the years I’d wasted.
With nothing to show for it, or my efforts.
That was when I finally asked myself what was really
stopping me, and the answer was hard to come to
terms with.
My lack of action was never because I needed another
course or a better plan. I was terrified of putting
myself out there.
Of being judged.
Of being rejected.
Of finding out my work wasn’t good enough.
Going Unscripted
For years, I had blamed myself for not having enough courage or discipline.
My past had taught me that staying invisible was the safest place to be, and all that planning and polishing was my survival instinct keeping me safe.
It just didn’t know that I didn't want to be that woman anymore.
The fear that had once protected me and kept me safe, was now keeping me stuck.
I needed to stop letting it make my decisions for me.
So I went off script. I launched my imperfect website.
I wrote my social media posts with greater vulnerability.
I scheduled time to finish my first manuscript.
Then I spent the next week in bed, nauseous and battling a migraine. I was so uncomfortable out of my comfort zone. But every time I did another hard thing, the fear had a little less hold on me.
That’s why I created Unscripted.
So many women are still standing on the sidelines of their own lives, not because they aren’t capable, but because fear has been deciding for them.
And no one, not even our fear, has the right to decide who we are or what we’re capable of becoming.
