Reconnecting Exhibition
‘Reconnecting’, the latest exhibition which took place at No. 10 Lower Ormond Quay was very successful and well attended in spite of the wintery weather! The work which took over a year to complete, were greatly inspired by a stay in the artists retreat at Cill Rialaig in Co. Kerry. During my daily walks alone in the wild and remote hills close to the residences, I began to collect sheep’s wool off the barbed wire fencing. This was then put into the paintings and the web like shapes that emerged proved to be an inspiration for the theme of ‘connections’ for the upcoming exhibition. I became fascinated with the notion of the myriad of connections that exist at all levels of creation. I would like to continue to examine this theme over the coming months on my continuing journey of exploration.
The exhibition also featured six sculptures in stainless steel by Pat Cooney, who is also an architect. These sculptures were based on the trabeated system or order, which refers to the use of horizontal beams borne on columns or posts, and is a fundamental element of architecture and construction dating back to Neolithic times. As an archetype it represents our concepts of stability and order. The doorframe is not only a commonplace representation of this origin it is also, symbolically, the portal between one state and another – the interstice of transition.
My plans for 2010 are to take a little time out to travel, study and further develop my work without the pressure of my former work as an architect. Keep posted for upcoming exhibitions and events!
